The Gunas
The religion of the Gunas has been whispered about for nearly 500 years, having got its start within the demon races, but only growing to power 300 years ago when humans truly began to lose trust in non-humans. During the true Gunas movement, subhuman species especially many drow and vampires began to follow the religion. Today, the majority of the Gunas faith is followed openly by Vampires and vampirism is synonymous with the term "Gunas" though its followers ranges from demon, vampires, drow, and even some werewolves. Much of the religion is kept quiet and behind closed doors in private ceremonies, leading many ignorant of its purposes to consider the religion anti-human and often anti-Io.
There is no official hierarchy to the Gunas is expressed in its religion, though there are many devils worshiped as gods. The Gunas is made up of 4 sections based on the type of follower, the priests and the "gods" as well as the faith itself is called "The Gunas." The other three sects of the Gunas is the followers, divided by teachings.
The first sect is the Sattva, though this sect has never been reported to actually exist and many of those within the Gunas believe it to not be real, rather a literary metaphor. This sect would be made up of "The Pure" including pure blood vampires and pure blood demons. The devils worshiped as part of the Gunas would fall into this category, thus it is considered to be unattainable but what everyone should strive to be.
The second sect is the Rajas, this sect is the most lose and often is the most freely practiced. It is often referred to as "passion" or the grey. It is regularly made up of the followers of the Gunas who are able to integrate into society "without the necessity to kill others." Any demon or vampire that fits into this category is considered by the Gunas to be part of this category even if that individual may not believe in the religion. This is the largest sect.
The smallest sect, the Tamas, often called "The shadow," is made up of demonic possessions or the particularly deadly strain of dormant vampirism. Many of this sect are humans originally and are made to join this sect by force after their true nature has been revealed.
