I've noticed a lot of deviations and variations of the alignment rules. This is okay. However, there are SOME races which in the book, say ALWAYS ____ _____. Such as a Silver Dragon is ALWAYS Lawful Good. It is FINE for a character of this nature, if raised outside the norm...but they are going to have TENDENCIES to be their racial alignment. As an example, Marita from SRI, who is Melia's mother, was a Cloud Dragon, which are ALWAYS Lawful Neutral and generally not social creatures. She was raised in a temple around people constantly...but she retreated to get away from people, only able to handle them for so long, and was lawful neutral, leaning towards good. Io, her god, is Neutral.
Here's the deal. Lawful and Chaotic are opposites. They do NOT get along well. Chaotic often is annoyed by the other, and Lawful will usually try to convert the chaotic. Chaotic can't handle Lawful life. So they usually try to eradicate or stop the other. Same thing with Good vs. Evil. When you have Lawful Good vs Chaotic Evil...it's even worse. These two will typically NOT be friends. Total enemies. Hence why metallic dragons do NOT like chromatics. Drow do not get along with High elves.
There are, as I said some exceptions. Drow can be good, jsut as an example. However, a drow can be raised by humans or other elves. A Fire Giant is OFTEN Lawful Evil. A human or elf can't raise a fire giant. There's very little chance it would ever be raised any other way. If a Cloud Giant raised one, there's a chance of it being neutral good. However, when talking about seriously different races raising another, it's not likely. Dragons CAN be raised by humans. But they're not likely going to be what the humans are completely. Here's a list of what changes from the NORM can happen:
Lawful Good <---> Neutral Good
Neutral Good <---> Chaotic Good
Chaotic Good <---> Lawful Neutral
Lawful Neutral <---> Neutral
Neutral <---> Chaotic Neutral
Chaotic Neutral <---> Lawful Evil
Lawful Evil <---> Neutral Evil
Neutral Evil <---> Chaotic Evil
Unless there is a genuine reason for a deviation of great magnitude, such as LG to CE...your character should NOT deviate that much. If you need to learn what alignments mean, go here please: www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/description.html
