The Dark Duchess II (The DD2)
The Dark Duchess II was born and given its moniker in the year 2290. It is a Huntress class ship that is worthy for space travel and runway landing. This ship has been modified to also handle water landing and is seaworthy. Previous captains of this ship include Antonio Shard and was docked in Terrico, one of the few ships allowed to dock there due to the peace treaty of Vledin allowing ships with family ties to royal families to be granted safe harbor. The ship has been a flagship in multiple conflicts during the Caellyra war and has always backed the United Peninsula, even though Vledin, its registered national homeland, has stayed neutral.
This ship is registered as owned and operated by its captain, K. Ethan Shard. It has major upgrades to its engines and hull to allow it to have increased maneuverability and the ability to land in nearly any flat terrain. The ship has one retractable nose-mounted minigun, two high-power convection lasers mounted on either side of the nose which are rated for hull breaching at less than 300 yards. A full set of short-range and high-range missiles and lime-, taurine-, phosphorous-, and mechanical anti-lockon flares are included along the wings and the hull.
The Dark Duchess II is a double stack ship, a standard for the time that this ship was built. It requires only one pilot, but has a copilot console and full autopilot once in open flight. The ship has 10x20x30 cargo storage along with 11 detainment cells all kept up to standards set by the New Portell Trade Authority. The ship is equipped with a full infirmary set up to handle up to 4 wounded and one unconscious persons at any one time, including a locking infirmary bay and strapping infirmary bed.
As for creature comforts, a common area is set up outside the infirmary, 2 large bedrooms, 2 medium bedrooms, and 4 small bedrooms are offered for lodging for the crew. A full sized kitchen is fully stocked and stocked with a full diner-sized range, a full sized freezer and two refrigerators. After completely stocking, the food stores can feed a full crew of 8 for 2 months. A long table is bolted to the floor of the main dining room and two small round tables are set off to either side behind the dining room.
The ship's hull is rated for repeated entry and breaching of spyridon's atmosphere but is still required to maintain repairs due to heat exhaustion of metals along the nosecone and wings. Multiple wings are set along the ship to act as a huge heat sink to stop overheating during reentry and allowing a more open design of the engines.
The ship has multiple forward-facing thrusters for speed reduction and 6 engines, 2 for planetary atmosphere and 4 for space travel. The atmospheric engines, given a common term of "Atmo-jets" are swivel mounted on the end of a large wing at either side, allowing for vertical takeoff from solid land. The atmo-jets have also been upgraded to have a low-power mode for gliding if the ship is on water. Each space engine made up of dual ion propulsion engines, commonly referred to as Di-ion or "dion" engines. The Di-ion engines are in a side-by-side design, two for left propulsion and two for right, one engine on each side is set higher than the other allowing for greater control in venerability during combat or other required situations. Their cores are able to be reached from within the ship and though they use isotopic radiation repulsion, they are up to NPTA standards and do not give off radiation while the isotope cores are closed. A closed isotope core has its power reduced by nearly half as much as open cores but safety regulations require closed cores upon inspection at any NPTA checkpoints. The engine room has a radiation shielding door in case of accidental core exposure (or intentional).
The ship simulates gravity even in 0 gravity situation with regulated ion densities in different layers of the hull, normally this is automatically toggled on and off based on the gravity surrounding the ship but can be manually toggled.
Other noteworthy features:
The cargo bay has a nonstandard docking port which can conform to NPTA standard size.
A small plank of wood is on the wall of the common area which reads "Dark Duchess", this is said to have come from the original pirate and trade ship, the Dark Duchess, which sailed and earned infamy in the 1500s.
A plaque is hung in the common area which reads off:
Rules:
1. The captain is god and this ship is his heaven.
2. Your cut is given if you work.
3. Your wounds are not compensated out of the cut of other crewmen.
4. No relationships between crewmen, that's what ports are for.
5. Io is not a crewman on this ship.
